Question of the day: Asian girls with blonde hair? Love it or hate it?

Filed Under:

Okay I want all of your honest opinions: What do you guys think about Asian girls who have colored blonde hair? I’ve seen young Asian girls with natural blonde hair and it’s gorgeous. Personally, I don’t know how I feel about colored blonde hair.

I’m naturally a brunette but back when I was in high school, I ALWAYS had blonde hair. Either golden blonde hair, red hair w/ blonde streaks, skunky black/blonde hair, and even full out blonde hair.

I think certain girls can pull them off. You know, the fake-tanned asian girls with golden skin or the girls who look like they are dressed to go clubbing 24/7…even in a freakin supermarket.
I even think Tila Tequila looked cute as a blonde.

I feel like a lot of people discriminate against Asian girls with blonde hair. They are seen as dumb, classless or even as lame wannabes. Coming from an Asian girl who has had blonde hair for years, I can tell you why I did it:

1) Asian girls are born with black or dark brown hair for the most part. I wanted to stand out from the rest. I’ve always been that kind of person, so I colored it to help myself feel more unique.

2) We are trained in society to believe that blonde girls are more attractive or have more fun. I tried it out and you know what? Maybe it was a sort of hallucination, but I really did feel that I had more fun.

3) It complimented my pale skin tone. My dark hair made my paleness stand out even more.

4) I felt au naturale with lighter hair. I could wear less makeup. Think of Kim Kardashian. She had far more makeup on when she had dark hair. Dark hair just goes so well with smoky eyes, while lighter hair gives you a more glowy, natural, sun-kissed look and you don’t need to pile on so much.

5) I received a lot more attention from people since no one is used to seeing Asian girls with blonde hair. It made me feel attractive and helped me to stand out.

But recently, I’ve moved over to dark hair and you know what I’ve noticed?

- Dark hair makes you look mature, sophisticated and serious.

- Dark hair can make you look sexy and exotic. Girls like Kim Kardashian, Courtney Cox, and Megan Fox make it trendy to have dark, shiny hair.

- Dark hair makes your favorite features pop out more. Can bring the blues out in your eyes, and can also really show your glowing tan if you have one.

- It’s so fun to dress up with colorful accessories and outfits. When I had blonde hair, wearing bright colors like blue and pink made me feel like a barbie or a bimbo sometimes. But with dark hair, pink looked really pretty and even dark hair with black looks fierce!

So it doesn’t matter because I am a firm believer in doing things that make YOU happy. I know it’s hard to ignore what other people think but if you think you look good in your eyes, then do it! People are going to talk either way.

But I know now what I didn’t know in high school: That I can have just as much fun being a brunette and dark hair can be HOT too. Even as pale as I am! Just need a little bronzer and I’m good.

What I wanna know is what you guys think about it! Do you like Asian girls as blondes or do you think they should be banned from blonde hair dye?!

As you ponder on this for a while, I’m gonna go continue watching Austin Powers part 3.  TT4N!!

xoxo Hunni

Here’s something to read if you want to think more about it. http://www.worsethanqueer.com/slander/hair.html

Personally, I think it can be done and it can be cute. Tila did look good with blonde hair. I wouldn’t do it myself because I think it isn’t tasteful enough for me. Perhaps it isn’t tasteful because it’s not “natural” for Asian women.

Loved the article. Thanks for the insight! I especially loved the multiple choice question at the end. Yes i do feel radical, and yes sometimes I wonder if people think I’m self-hating because I’m supposedly trying to be “White” or even “White-washed.”

I guess it depends on the girl. I’ve seen asian girls who go very dramatic — beautiful, black, silky hair one day, then peroxide, damaged, blonde the next. Yuck! I think if any girl who has brunette hair wants to go lighter, they should make it a gradual change. That way it doesn’t look like they’re trying too hard to fit in…

Anyways, I like your new layout. It looks very green :)

Asians with blonde can work though depends i think streaks but not full hair bleach makes it look to wig and fake like.
