Some people are scared of spiders. Some people are scared of snakes. There are even people who are scared of balloons. What’s my phobia? Heights. Well specifically…heights plus motion, which equals ROLLERCOASTERS! Yes, I have a fear of rollercoasters, as ridiculous as that sounds! I’ve been to Disneyland before when I was younger and maybe once in high school but the only rides I remember are Peter Pan and Dumbo.
Until Yesterday. I went to Disneyland and California Adventure with my sister, her boyfriend, and one of our friends and although I chickened out on Maliboomer, I was very impressed with myself because I actually rode most of the rollercoasters.Yes I know, everybody reading this blog has probably ridden every Disneyland ride and even every Six Flags ride. But for someone who has never really gone on a rollercoaster before, I think I did pretty good.
I felt like a chicken my whole life for being nervous and anxious about riding a rollercoaster. I would get more than butterflies in my stomach, it would be to the point where I was feeling sick and nauseous. I even threw up after riding a silly carnival ride. That’s how bad I was. Going to Disneyland (which is known for having kiddish rides) had me anxious the entire time.
But I actually can’t wait to go back soon! Below are my top fave rides in Disneyland and a list of rides that weren’t as magical. Some were just ehhh…and sadly a lot of my favorite childhood rides are actually my least favorite now.
But luckily, I gained a bunch of new favorites!
BEST DISNEYLAND RIDES
6. River Run – This was in California Adventure. Water rides are always so fun but it’s best to go on a really hot day when you’re begging to get wet. Otherwise, if you hate the water, this isn’t for you.
5. Toy Story – This was in California Adventure too. This is such a fun one where you put on some 3D glasses and take a jerky ride through a maze filled with targets to shoot. There’s a small screen during the ride that updates your score and at the very end, you see who did the best. A must ride!
4. Thunder Mountain – This is such a fast, crazy train ride! I loved this one because of the speed. Definitely a popular one!
3. Matterhorn – This reminds me of Thunder Mountain except it’s on a snowy mountain and you’re sitting in a bobsled-like cart. You can ride in your own seat or you can have someone sit in between your legs while you hold them (like a motorcycle ride). It’s fast and quick and the only reason I like this one better than Thunder Mountain are the seats. You get to stretch out your legs and because you’re sitting alone, it feels like you’re navigating the mountain on your own. Pretty exciting.
2. Space Mountain – This is pretty close to being my favorite ride. The line was 1 1/2 hours long. I was wondering what the fuss was all about. I’ve asked many of my friends and 50% love it and 50% hate it. I was so curious about the ride because everyone seemed to have a crazy description that I couldn’t imagine. It’s definitely something you have to see for yourself! I love how fast and crazy this one is. Just try to avoid the bright light in the end when the camera takes your picture. It’s annoyingly bright. And warning, you WILL get very dizzy after this ride.
1. Mulholland Madness – This was in California Adventure too and it’s by far the most fun I had on a ride. A lot of people exiting the ride were talking about how much they hate it and I totally understand why. You’re sitting in a car and not only are you going at a face pace but there are a lot of crazy corners to turn and every time you turn a corner, the car inches off the track and it really feels like you’re about to fall off. I have no idea how they created that ride but they do a good job of making you feel unsecured. This one is sooo fun!
MY LEAST FAVE RIDES
I’m sorry if you don’t agree but well, everybody’s different. (This is in opposite order. The top is the worst and as you go down, the rides are better)
1. ToonTown Rollercoaster – We rode it for laughs but our laughs turned to grimaces and we were definitely not amused. The 40 minute line lead us to a 5 second ride. It was fun for a second until it ended. I understand it’s a kid’s ride so I’ll let that slide, but it’s still the worst ride.
2. Storybook Land – I don’t know if the people who made Small World made this one too because it’s a similar concept. But I just didn’t see the fun in this boring ride.
3. Haunted Mansion – Wow, I can’t believe I was so excited to ride this. I think I hyped this up because the only good part about this is the beginning when you’re stuck in the room.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean – Sorry but this ride didn’t do it for me. It was a beautiful place, but it moved way too slow.
5. Soaring – This probably shouldn’t even be on this list because I really liked it except the image was a little blurry and after we left, we all got kind of dizzy. And it was dizzy in a bad way like my eyes were fuzzy for a while. Otherwise, I love simulated rides and I really appreciated the idea. This is a favorite of a lot of people though and I think it’s worth trying. I wouldn’t knock this one.
There you have it! My top favorite rides! I feel like a whole new person and that I can do anything I want if I put my mind to it.
I really want to go again soon because 11 hours just wasn’t enough time! I still didn’t get to ride the ferris wheel and of course, Dumbo! =(
One of our friends brought her camera and snapped a bunch of pictures so once she emails me, I will put them up!
