Sometimes I miss being a makeup whore: sporting a different type of look everyday. Dark smoky eyes one day to a sun-kissed natural glow look the next. These days, I’m constantly wearing the same makeup, every single day. I just haven’t put much energy and time into my makeup routine. But my friends have been telling me to change it up so I’ve been looking at other celebrities for inspiration.

And you know what I realized? I don’t have to change my entire makeup all the time. Sometimes, it’s just as simple as finding something you’ve never tried before. Giving your face a fresh new look can make you feel livelier and trendy! Then I remembered…I have NEVER attempted a red lipstick before. It’s simple, chic and an easy way to change your entire look.

The red-lipped vixen look has been pulled off by many: Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, and Beyonce.

I’ve been inspired by those girls for a while now but I never thought I could see it on myself. I have considered red lipstick on my complexion before and the entire idea was very discouraging since I have a pale skin tone.
But  seeing red lips on a variety of girls all over the streets really did it for me. If so many girls can pull off red lips, why can’t I? I was scared at first, but a lot of my friends insisted that I at least try it.

I stopped by Sephora because one of my girlfriends had bought a unique orange-red color so I figured they would have a variety of shades. I tried on different types: orange-red, hot pink, medium pink, light red but nothing really did the trick. I walked around but not with confidence. In fact, I felt like people were staring at me as if they’d seen a vampire!

Finally, the Sephora employee suggested a true blood red. (Something Christina Aguilera would wear!) It was so surprising and I was hesitant but… I actually PULLED IT OFF! My roommates love it on me! It definitely changed my smoky eyed/nude glossy lipped look look to an exotic pin-up girl look!

The only downside? They are sold out of it everywhere!!! It’s called Sephora Red and I can’t find it anywhere online either. Plus, there was a matching lip liner too and I was so stoked about it. :( :( :(

It’s okay…I’m still on the lookout for something similar. Maybe I’ll try MAC or something. I just wanted something affordable. It sucks whenever I want something and it’s limited or out of stock. That seems to happen to me a lot. Maybe I have the same taste as everyone else? Dammit, my taste is just too damn good. ;)

If any of you guys hear of it, let me know. I signed up for Sephora email so they can let me know when it’s back in stock. Then I can take pics for all you guys! :) Have a good night!

A few people asked me to list all the makeup I use. I don’t have the time to list every single thing I use but I can name some of my favorites off the top of my head.

This list will change constantly because I’m always finding something new that I like. For now, here’s the list of makeup items I’m currently using:

Eyeshadow: Sephora has these little eyeshadow palettes for $15. Love how small they are, fit right into my purse, so I use those. I love MAC palettes where you can pick your own. Toofaced duo eyeshadows are freakin AWESOME.
Eyeliner: Liquid: Almay Liquid Liner is my love. I haven’t found anything better than that other than Mac.
Pencil: Rimmel’s Eye liner but I also LOVE Mac’s. I just think the Mac one is overpriced for a pencil eyeliner.
Mascara: Right now, it’s Ulta Showstopper.
Lipgloss: I’m not a huge fan of lipstick but I love lip glosses. My fave is Mac Viva Glam VI. They also have a good one called Sinnamon which I alternate with.
Powder: MAC Studio Fix. People may say it’s bad for you but ehhh…it covers all my blemishes. Everyday Minerals has really good mineral powders and also, pressed powders. I like Sephora but I wish they packed more powder in it because I go through it in like 2 weeks.
Blush: MAC Gingerly. Victoria’s secret has a really good bronzer that you can use as a blush. It’s called Glitterati.
Bronzer: Toofaced has really good bronzers.

There ya go. Those are some of my faves…but I’m always on the lookout for better products. :)

Hopefully you all had a great New Year’s! I sure had fun watching all the happy people in time square, and watching Jersey Shore re-runs. I didn’t think I would like that show but shoot, it’s entertaining.
So do you have a New Year’s resolution?

I normally don’t have one but I figured it’s the perfect time. My resolution is to not be so hard on myself. I don’t seem to appreciate anything about myself and I just realized lately that I DO have a lot of good things going on for me and I DO have many accomplishments. I just have to learn to treat myself a little better this year. ;) It can really change my outlook on life and really boost my self-confidence!

[EDITED ON FEB. 15, 2010]

SO it’s my favorite part of the blog now!!!

**MAKEUP TIME!!!***

hahahaa

Yesterday, I went to Ulta, which is one of my favorite beauty stores because I like a lot of their products and I especially like the PRICING of the products. Can you say AMAZINGLY affordable?!
They had a special deal going on yesterday. Buy 2 Ulta cosmetics, get 2 free! So of course, I jumped at the chance to get their mascaras. They have a variety of choices and you can choose any one mascara for $10 max. I have tried nearly all drugstore mascaras and some high-end ones, but Ulta mascaras really have me won over. I currently use these 3:

AMPED LASHES MASCARA: From left to right, the one on the left is good for a natural look. It’s called Amped Lashes. The short spikes in the brush really separate my lashes and coat them evenly without any clumps. It’s clump-proof! If you care about lengthening more than thickening, then this is a really good one for you. You can create either a natural look or dramatic look because if you coat your lashes more than once, it will really lengthen and separate them.

LASH EXTENSION MASCARA: The 2nd mascara in the middle is very different from any other mascara i’ve ever tried. It’s called Lash Extension Lengthening Mascara. First of all, there is no actual brush or comb, it’s literally just a wand with a few ridges. I don’t know if that even qualifies as a mascara. It’s more like a “Mascara Aid.” There’s nothing to separate your lashes. But what you want to do is either use a lash comb to separate your lashes before and after using this mascara, OR you can use a different mascara with this one and alternate the two. I actually use Amped Lashes with this Lengthening mascara and they work WONDERS together… and they can even look like falsies.

SHOWSTOPPER LASHES MASCARA: The third tube on the very right is a really cute, trendy mascara. Not only the name Showstopper Lashes, but also the tube is really attractive. The brush is a thick mascara brush that’s curved and that supposedly helps with curling. I say “supposedly” because I don’t believe any mascara will actually “curl” your lashes (that comes from either a tool or genetics), so I always suggest a good curler. But this one is great to help give your lashes a little oomph. It definitely lengthens and thickens which is what it claims to do. (This is my current obsession)

Well, there you go. Go try them out guys, they really are worth the money. I am always trying out new mascaras so chances are, I’ll still experiment with other ones. But for now, these are my faves! You can trust me… ;)

So my sister got me a really nice Kirkland makeup brush set from Costco. It’s a pretty good deal. You get 12 brushes, 2 faux leather pouches, and 1 eyelash curler. All for $20. Amazing right?

You get:
1. Large powder brush
2. Flat top brush for bronzer/blush/powder
3. Flat liquid foundation brush
4. Eyeshadow brush
5. Eyeshadow blending brush
6. Eyeliner brush
7. Smudge brush
8. Slanted eyebrow/eyeliner brush w/ eyebrow comb on other end
9. Mini powder brush
10. Mini eyeshadow brush
11. Mini eyeshadow blending brush
12. Mini eyeliner
13. Pretty decent eyelash curler
The brushes I like best are the flat top brush just because flat tops work best on me for powder and bronzer. I love the slanted eyebrow/eyeliner brush with the brow comb attached at the bottom end too. And the eyeshadow brushes aren’t too bad. I wouldn’t say the brushes are like MAC quality. They’re very soft but they’re not as densely packed and not as firm.

But they’re very good to buy for beginners or for people who just need a backup. Or for people who just want a whole new complete brush set. It’s very cute for traveling and I’ve been using it for my makeup and I haven’t had any loose hairs go on my face which is a HUUUUUGE PLUS! That is a big deal for me. Even mac powder brushes sometimes has hair coming out.

Really good deal…go and check it out! (I’d better hurry because I hear these are limited edition and run out quick!)

I learned a very interesting fact this weekend. Apparently MAC studio fix is horrible for your skin! The worst part: I’ve been an avid fan of the powder for about 5 years!  No wonder my skin is so horrible… I talked to a makeup artist who told me MAC powder tends to clog your pores, cause breakouts, and dry out your skin. She also told me to try this out: Stop using the powder for about a week and see the difference. I do remember my skin being not as dry when I was without it.

But now, where do I turn to for face makeup? I’ve been trying to think of a mineral powder for an alternative. Sorry for all you Bare Escentuals lovers out there but it didn’t really work for me. It really didn’t cover any of my blemishes or redness. Sheer cover was okay but not enough coverage for me either, and I don’t like the MAC mineral power either. One of my girlfriends told me that Kirkland actually came out with a mineral powder and she said it was amazing. Her skin looked flawless! So I might check into that pretty soon! ;)

I also am a huuge fan of Everyday Minerals! (everydayminerals.com) I think they are amazing and I love the colors but I just want to see if there is anything out there that’s better. If you guys know of any good face makeup, let me know! ttyl…

I have a love-hate relationship with the fall & winter season. I love the beautiful rain, the sound of thunder, and how it feels to wake up all snug and cozy underneath the warmth of your blanket.

But what I hate the most about this season is how pale I get. And I’m talking vampire pale.

I’m naturally very light-skinned so it takes so much time & effort to get the slightest tan. So usually during late August is when I look my tannest and I absolutely love it…but then September rolls in and the sun disappears (and since I don’t do sunbed/spray tans) the tan starts dispersing before my very eyes.

So I’ve been shopping around for bronzers/blushes/tanners and anything I can use to give me that same summer glow. I went to Victoria’s secret and got myself a bronzer which is pretty damn good. I’ve been using it as a blush because the shimmer is beautiful. The color I got is called Glitterati.

Next I went to Sephora and got this:

ISN’T IT CUTE? I think it’s TooFaced’s limited edition and it’s $38! Basically it has the highlighter on the top left with 4 diff. colors to brighten up your face, then the one next to it has shimmer, and the one below is just a bronzer to add that glow. It comes with a flat brush that feels nice & soft but is pretty useless to me so I use my own brush. But I’m in LOOOVE! :) Makes a HUUUUGE difference on my face!

And then I grabbed some perfume. It’s sold at VS and it’s called: Sexy Little Things. It has a strong floral scent and it’s yum. For a large size, it’s $50.

Plus, when you open the box, it whistles at you. I find myself constantly opening it just to flatter myself. haha

Until next time lovelies!

I was reading Angry Asian Man and I read that Victoria Secret has their first Asian runway model: Liu Wen. Personally, I put all the Victoria Secret models on pedestals in terms of beauty and physicalities, so I’m really excited that they included a person of a different ethnicity and I’m eager to see where they will take it…I love variety!
Anyway, here is my favorite picture of Liu Wen.

So today, I went to Downtown Disney for the first time ever w/ my coworker Heather! It was awesome, we had a blast! We went to check out Rainforest Cafe (I love the environment) but when we noticed a burger was 12 bucks, our broke asses decided to go to Tortilla Jo’s instead which turned out REALLY good! 6 bucks for 2 big tacos with any toppings! I can honestly say Tortilla Jo’s beats Baha Fresh and yes…even…dare I say it…Chipotle! =X eek, don’t hate me!

After our wonderful trip to Tortilla Jo’s, our filled bellies wandered into Sephora. I am a faithful MAC/Victoria’s Secret/Everyday Minerals customer but once in a while, I give in to the cute packaging at Sephora. I was doing good and able to ignore all the expensive goodies and then on the way out, I noticed this:

sephora shadowIt’s a super tiny eyeshadow palette with slide-out lip colors and a blush. All for $15. It’s literally the perfect size to throw in your bag and just touch up on the go. I’ve always had problems trying to fit all my MAC single eyeshadow pots in my bag so I wanted a small palette with an array of colors to choose from! It came in 2 types: warm and cool and of course, I liked the warm one! It comes with 8 shadow colors: pearl white, taupe, shimmery golden chocolate, dark matte brown, light peach, dark blue, forest green, and a shimmery gold. I tried on the colors in the store and if I mix the matte brown with the shimmery gold, it really looks beautiful!

On another note, I decided to listen to the radio for a change and there are so many songs I love. Here is a list of some of my favorites; go listen to them!

1. Kesha – Tik Tok
2. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
3. Britney Spears – 3
4. Katy Perry – Starstrukk
5. Rihanna ft. Will.I.Am – Photograph
6. Hollywood Undead – Everywhere I go
7. Ester Dean – Drop It low
8. Iyaz – Replay
9. Jay Sean – Do You Remember?
10. Drake – Forever Mine
11. Leighton Meester ft. Robin Thicke – Somebody to Love

I’m out for now!

So I haven’t been shopping in a long time since I started working. Well, physically shopping, that is. I’ve come to realize that virtual shopping can be just as fun. Sure, you don’t get the same exercise when you’re sprinting from store to store, and yeah, you don’t get that same excitement when you actually try on the outfits and do a runway walk but still, very easily accessible. If you’re one of those people that always have to dress up before leaving the house and wouldn’t be caught dead without makeup, then online shopping is definitely a plus since you could be in your pajamas with curlers in your hair ordering a new pair of shoes. And the best part of online shopping is when you make that happy trip to your mailbox and TA-DA, you discover your purchase! It’s like Christmas!

The downside? One thing I hate about online shopping is that it’s so so dangerous. I find myself going to various sites intending for harmless “window shopping,” to later finding myself obsessed with a blue tube dress or an eyeshadow palette or even perfume that I haven’t even freakin smelled yet! Awful!

Well, one thing’s for sure, internet shopping is insanely convenient and at the ease of your fingertips…which is a good thing but not for a shop-a-holic like me! Anywho, I was recently looking at Victoria’s Secret beauty collection and I really love Heidi Klum’s makeup line.

heidi klum collection

The eyeshadow palette is what I really like but I have tons of mac makeup that i haven’t even finished wearing yet so I’m holding off for now! Well, I’m off to work now!
